An interesting snippet caught my eye in one of the business publications about a giant company. And that led to an insight which can be correlated to our personal life in many ways.
The story was about Intel, the guys who used to tell us time and again, at least till yesterday, to look inside (of every PC / traditional computers to find them). However, the news headline which caught my eye was something else. It read 'Intel aims to go from inside to everywhere'.
With an interesting caption such as this which is asking us to alter our (long withheld) brand perception about Intel, definitely was going to be worth reading.
Apparently, the writing was on the wall for a few years now. The message had been slowly growing loud and clear for Intel as it's market had been more or less stagnant or marginally growing. And it was the time for Intel to become relevant to those who were shifting the product loyalties from the old to the new - from the traditional computers/PCs to the hand sets /cell phones.
The world's largest chip maker, which dominates the market for semi conductors that run traditional computers, is now looking to branch out as consumers increasingly use smart phones and tablets that don't contain Intel processors. Given that the PC market is slowing, Intel has already started looking to wearable devices and other personal technology to offset this saturation. Considering they are new in the phones segment they have not been able to garner any significant market share so far.
So the new mantra of the Intel CEO, Brian Krzanich, "However and wherever the market moves, Intel will be where the compute need is and they will be the best". So it could be the household appliances or industrial equipment segment, Intel will not shy away from entering those markets. Also, Intel is now open to producing chips for other companies and more importantly, listening to what customers want.
In the CEO's words, "We'd become insular. We'd become focused on what was our best product rather than where the market was moving."
So in a nutshell, a strong message for all of us here which can be applied in our personal life as well.
Because if we don't do the above, we may experience the "Kodak Moment" a little too early in our life. Stay relevant. Stay Alive!

- Update /upgrade your skills regularly (read, watch webinars, get certified etc.)
- 'Listen' to your stakeholders (or customers/ family members etc.)
- Improvise always (as you can get indispensable)
