Day 1 - "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." - Aristotle

Today, I accidentally happened to read Dr. APJ Kalam's (past President of India)Wikipedia profile. It would be an understatement if I said, it left me completely floored. I was totally humbled, astounded and overawed when I read about his early life and education.
"A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in a Tamil Muslim family to Jainulabdeen, a boat owner and Ashiamma, a housewife, at Rameswaram, located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He came from a poor background and started working at an early age to supplement his family's income. After completing school, Kalam distributed newspapers in order to financially contribute to his father's income. In his school years, he had average grades, but was described as a bright and hardworking student who had a strong desire to learn and spend hours on his studies, especially mathematics."

So what then made someone with such utterly humble background go on to become India's most revered scientist and also the 11th President of India.

And then as serendipity would have it, today evening I chanced upon an editorial piece in The Times of India titled 'Motivation is Greater than Favour'. It talked about how out of the world's hundred richest people today, 27 are heirs and 73 are self made. In other words, the article goes on to say that super achievers are not born, they are self made people. It is not external favour but ones own struggle which makes one a super achiever. Nature does not discriminate between one person and another. Nature's gifts come to everyone equally. It is the receiver who either utilizes them or not.

So what better reinforcement of an inspiring thought than that, I said to myself.

Mr. Aristotle, you have inspired me to do one act everyday repeatedly for the next 1 month and that is write a blog post of the most inspiring ideas and thoughts that move me.

The first one is dedicated to you!
